A closer look
Long before cinematic universes existed, Andy Warhol decided to just steal the Dark Knight. In 1964, without bothering to ask DC Comics for anything resembling legal permission, he directed Batman Dracula, an unauthorized, wildly campy black-and-white art film. It featured a bloated, bizarre narrative and was only shown at Warhol's private gallery exhibits before disappearing entirely. It was considered a lost holy grail of fan-fiction cinema until bits of the footage surfaced in 2006.
