Stepping on the gas pedal no longer pulls a physical cable connected to the engine throttle. You are just stepping on a giant, spring-loaded electronic sensor. It reads the angle of your foot and sends a digital request to a computer, which then decides if it actually wants to accelerate the car. You are merely making suggestions to a machine.
