A theater hired a doctor for fainting audience members

The French theater of the macabre was so dedicated to excessive, realistic stage gore that audience members routinely passed out. Instead of toning it down, the theater management hired a resident doctor to treat the fainters, which they immediately used as free marketing to prove how terrifying their plays were. Fainting was basically just a five-star review.
