A closer look

Founding Father Benjamin Franklin confidently decided the English language was deeply flawed in 1768 and invented his own phonetic alphabet, removing the letters C, J, Q, W, X, and Y entirely. He argued these letters were redundant and replaced them with six new bizarre symbols he invented to represent specific vocal sounds, hoping to completely overhaul how Americans communicated. Franklin actually had special typefaces cast and published several articles using his unhinged new alphabet, but absolutely no one else wanted to relearn how to read just to stroke his polymath ego. The project completely failed because society is universally too lazy to adopt sweeping structural changes unless absolutely forced to. It turns out that even if you discover electricity and help draft the Declaration of Independence, people will still aggressively ignore your grammar suggestions
