Clarence Taber essentially built the first major medical encyclopedia using hundreds of thousands of literal paper slips. His pre-digital index card system was a chaotic, physical mountain of cross-referenced diseases and definitions that took up entire rooms, proving that healthcare administration has literally always been a paperwork nightmare.
