A Hero Built From Two Unused Ideas
Storm’s early development drew on concepts that had not yet become separate characters. Marvel first considered a male weather-controlling hero called Typhoon. The character was then reworked as a woman, while visual elements from an unused cat-themed character were folded into the design.
That change was more than a name swap: it combined a power concept with imagery developed for a different idea. The result shows how character creation can proceed through revision and reuse, rather than from a single finished concept. An abandoned design need not disappear; parts of it can find a new role when a character’s identity changes.
From Typhoon to Storm
The surviving outline of the process is strikingly compact: a weather hero, a change in gender, and borrowed visual material from a cat-themed concept. The available account does not specify which visual elements were reused or why the change was made, so the clearest takeaway is the creative recombination itself. Storm emerged from ideas that had first been imagined separately.
