Overclocking enthusiasts in the late nineties pioneered liquid cooling for personal computers by literally hacking together makeshift systems using cheap aquarium pumps and car heater cores. Before massive tech companies began manufacturing sleek, RGB-illuminated liquid cooling loops, brave nerds were actively risking destroying their expensive processors by pumping actual tap water through dangerously leaky vinyl tubes inside their computer cases. The desire to squeeze just a few extra megahertz of performance out of a processor was so overwhelmingly powerful that people willingly combined sensitive electronics with plumbing equipment in a blatant defiance of basic common sense. Today's meticulously engineered cooling systems owe their entire existence to a bunch of chaotic hobbyists who looked at a fish tank and thought it was the perfect hardware upgrade for playing Quake
