The very buildings we visit for minor complaints get their name from ancient furniture logistics. Derived from 'klinein', meaning to slope or recline, the word evolved to describe the beds used for examination. Eventually, the entire building was just named after the act of lying down, which is ironically what you want to do after receiving the bill.
