Pseudo-Dionysius faked his identity for a millennium

Identity theft is a joke until you fool the entire scholarly world for over a thousand years. An anonymous Syrian philosopher wanted people to take his radical texts seriously, so he simply signed them as Dionysius, a guy converted by the Apostle Paul. His writings massively shaped medieval theology before someone finally noticed his Greek was way too modern.
