Benjamin Franklin actually wrote an entire scientific essay in 1781 titled Fart Proudly to mock the pretentious academic societies of Europe. While serving as the United States Ambassador to France, Franklin became exhausted by the overly academic and totally useless papers being published by the Royal Academy of Brussels. To troll them, he drafted a highly formal proposal suggesting they redirect their brilliant minds toward discovering a drug that would make human flatulence smell like perfume.
