Red Rover began as a game about naval warfare

Forcing children to clothesline each other was once an allegory for war. English children designed this to mimic breaking through the impenetrable lines of enemy ships. Today, it mostly serves as an efficient way to teach small kids about the grim realities of physical disparity and recess hierarchy.
