Long before the Wright brothers, Emanuel Swedenborg decided he was going to invent an airplane. He drafted incredibly detailed blueprints for a flying machine powered purely by a pilot aggressively flapping large wooden wings. It was aerodynamically impossible and completely ridiculous, but he defended the math with absolute, unwavering confidence.
