Sometimes extreme megalomania pays off. Cameron originally wrote the treatment for his blue-alien Pocahontas epic in 1994, fully intending to shoot it right after Titanic. Upon realizing that the clunky computer-generated imagery of the 90s would make his majestic Na'vi look like terrifying PlayStation 1 graphics, he simply packed the script away. He casually waited an entire decade for motion-capture tech to catch up to his imagination, eventually dropping the film in 2009 to shatter every box office record.
