A closer look
Death doesn't stop family drama; it just changes the postage. Ancient Egyptians strongly believed that the spirits of the dead could meddle in the affairs of the living. If someone fell ill, suffered bad luck, or experienced marital issues, they assumed a dead relative was holding a grudge. Their solution was to write incredibly sassy 'Letters to the Dead' on pottery bowls, pleading their case ('Why are you doing this to me? I gave you a very expensive funeral!') and leaving them in the tomb, essentially treating their ancestors like a supernatural customer service department.
