A closer look

Retired science teacher Irv Gordon holds the Guinness World Record for the highest vehicle mileage after driving his red Volvo P1800 for more than three million miles before his passing. To put that completely unhinged distance into perspective it is the equivalent of driving around the entire equator of the Earth one hundred and twenty times or driving to the moon and back roughly six times. He did not achieve this by constantly swapping engines either as the car retained its original block which is incredibly frustrating for anyone whose modern vehicle starts aggressively rattling after fifty thousand miles. Gordon essentially spent his entire adult life sitting in the exact same leather seat just cruising across the American highway system while the rest of us desperately finance new cars every five years. It proves that if you actually maintain your vehicle and aggressively avoid potholes you can theoretically outlive the structural integrity of your own spine
