Kafka wanted his unpublished writing destroyed
The patron saint of existential dread couldn't even manage his own legacy. On his deathbed, Kafka instructed his close friend Max Brod to destroy all his unpublished manuscripts unread. Brod completely ignored his dying buddy's final wish, published the works anyway, and inadvertently made Kafka one of the most famous authors of the 20th century.
