England’s first printed book was about chess

When William Caxton brought the revolutionary printing press to England in 1474, he didn't start with the Bible or grand political manifestos. The very first book he printed in the English language was 'The Game and Playe of the Chesse.' Apparently, even in the 15th century, humanity's primary instinct when handed world-changing technology was to immediately publish a walkthrough guide for a tabletop game.
