A closer look
Walk into any yoga studio and you'll find someone rubbing a mallet against a brass bowl to clear your negative aura with 'ancient Tibetan frequencies.' The harsh reality is that there is zero historical record of monks using singing bowls for meditation in Tibet before the 1970s. Hippie backpackers traveling through the Himalayas found ordinary local food bowls, started playing them like musical instruments, and the locals smartly realized they could charge foreigners ten times the price if they slapped a 'mystical meditation tool' label on them.
