A closer look
Theosophy enthusiasts in the nineteen thirties loudly proclaimed that an ancient, highly advanced race of mystical beings called Lemurians had secretly survived the sinking of their continent and moved inside Mount Shasta in California. Believers claimed these seven-foot-tall, majestic cosmic entities walked around the local town in flowing white robes, casually purchasing massive amounts of sulfur and groceries using giant raw gold nuggets. It is endlessly amusing that an incredibly advanced civilization capable of interdimensional travel and telepathic communication still apparently needed to make annoying weekend runs to the local hardware store to pick up basic gardening supplies
