A closer look
Nintendo's quality assurance testing apparently included surviving military-grade explosives. During the 1990 Gulf War, an American medic's barracks were bombed, completely melting the plastic exterior of his trusty Game Boy into a charred, bubbly mess. Miraculously, the internal components and the screen remained entirely functional. It was sent back to Nintendo, where it sat in their flagship New York store for decades, happily running Tetris while looking like it crawled out of an active volcano.
