Branding is rarely grounded in reality. Despite being world-famous as the 'Tube' and pioneering deep-level subterranean transit, roughly 55% of the London Underground track network is actually out in the open air, mostly in the outer suburbs. The iconic roundel logo should technically say 'London Mostly Overground,' but that doesn't have the same gritty, dystopian ring to it. Digging tunnels is incredibly expensive, so eventually, they just gave up and laid tracks in the sunlight.
