An entire industry of comedians and true-crime buffs owes its terminology to a rushed Guardian newspaper article. Hammersley was writing about the new trend of amateur internet radio and threw out 'podcasting' as a quick space-filler. Apple didn't even invent the tech, but the name stuck so hard that they eventually embraced it, accidentally branding the entire medium of conversational audio.
