Disney’s ‘underground’ tunnels are above ground

The famous subterranean utilidors where employees hide are entirely above ground. Because Florida is essentially a giant swamp, digging basements is impossible. Instead, engineers built the tunnel network on the ground level and completely buried it with millions of tons of dirt, meaning tourists are essentially walking around on the roof.
