Liquid oxygen makes carbon burst into flame

Normally, carbon needs a little coaxing to catch fire, but liquid oxygen takes things to horrifying extremes. If you drop a glowing piece of pure carbon into a vat of it, it combusts with a blindingly brilliant flash of pure energy. It’s an aggressive chemical reminder that oxygen is actually an incredibly violent oxidizer waiting for an excuse.
