Firefox browser's iconic logo does not actually depict a fox on fire, but rather a red panda, because the word is just an English translation of the Chinese nickname for the adorable Asian mammal. The original developers wanted to name the browser Firebird, but a database software company had already trademarked it, forcing them into a massive rebranding panic. The end result was a beautifully designed logo that everyone on the planet completely misunderstands. It makes absolute sense that a software built as the indie alternative to Internet Explorer would accidentally base its entire brand identity on an obscure zoological misnomer that absolutely no one bothers to fact-check
