Bill Gates fully intended to release his groundbreaking graphical operating system in 1983 under the painfully boring moniker of Interface Manager, convinced it accurately described the software's functionality. The marketing department desperately intervened, realizing that consumers would absolutely never buy something that sounded like a middle-management seminar, and convinced him to adopt the name Windows instead. It is terrifying to think how close we came to living in a timeline where we boot up Interface Manager and suffer through the infamous Interface Manager Blue Screen of Death. The total inability of genius programmers to name their own products without sounding like robotic bureaucrats remains legendary!
