Author Truman Capote was absolutely furious when Audrey Hepburn put on the little black dress. He wrote the gritty, chaotic character of Holly Golightly specifically for Marilyn Monroe. Monroe even accepted the part, but her acting coach advised her against playing a high-class escort, fearing it would ruin her public image. Hepburn took the role, aggressively sanitized the character's darker edges, and accidentally created the aesthetic for every college dorm poster in the 2000s.
