Traditional publishers take years to print a finished novel

Even after an author signs a contract and turns in a perfectly polished manuscript, the traditional publishing machine halts to a glacial pace. Due to rigid editorial scheduling, cover design bottlenecks, and the necessity of printing physical copies overseas before shipping them back on slow cargo boats, a finished book routinely takes up to two years to legally hit a bookstore.
