A closer look
Benjamin Franklin firmly believed in the intense medical benefits of what he called an air bath, which was really just his fancy intellectual excuse for sitting completely naked in front of his open windows. While the rest of colonial society was bundled up in dozens of layers of wool and linen, the founding father would spend hours every single morning entirely in the nude, happily writing essays and reading books. He believed that cold, fresh air would cure various diseases and improve his overall constitution, blissfully ignoring the trauma he was likely inflicting on any unfortunate neighbors walking past his Philadelphia home. Imagine casually strolling down the cobblestone street to buy some bread, only to look up and see the man who discovered electricity just aggressively airing out his colonial junk. He proved that you can be an absolute visionary genius while still being the weirdest guy in your entire neighborhood
