There is a perfectly pleasant small town in Michigan officially named 'Hell'. Theories on the name vary, from a German settler calling it 'so schön hell' (so beautifully bright), to an early founder stating he didn't care what it was named, 'you can name it Hell for all I care'. The town completely leaned into it, appointing a daily honorary mayor.
