Montezuma II was essentially the ancient world's most aggressive chocoholic. The Aztecs revered cacao beans so much they used them as currency. The emperor reportedly pounded up to fifty golden goblets of a frothy, spicy, bitter chocolate brew every single day, believing it gave him incredible stamina and power. He basically fueled his entire empire on pure, unadulterated caffeine.
