Why Tuesday Belongs to Mars
In the traditional astrological week, each day is associated with a planet. Tuesday is assigned to Mars, the planet linked in astrology with conflict, courage, drive, and getting things done. The association survives in several languages: French mardi and Spanish martes descend from Latin dies Martis, “day of Mars.” English Tuesday instead takes its name from the Germanic god Tiw, another figure associated with war.
From Planetary Symbol to Everyday Mood
Astrology treats these links as a symbolic vocabulary, not a forecast of what every person will do. Mars represents force directed outward: the impulse to compete, confront an obstacle, or act before hesitation takes over. Applying that image to a brisk or competitive walk turns an abstract planetary quality into a familiar scene—someone treating the pavement like a racecourse.
That makes the Tuesday-Mars idea useful as a playful lens for the day, rather than a claim that the planet changes anyone’s stride. The joke works because an ordinary sidewalk stroll can suddenly look like a tiny contest when viewed through Mars’s combative symbolism.
