Because the pure atomic structure of the heavy metal bismuth actively grows significantly faster on its outer edges than on its internal core, it bizarrely crystallizes into perfectly square, stepped geometric funnels. When successfully exposed to heavy atmospheric oxygen, the dense metal rapidly oxidizes, elegantly painting the entire rigid structure in a stunning, vibrant rainbow spectrum.
