A closer look

Your digital life could disappear in 10 seconds, and you would have no legal right to get most of it back. Cloud services feel like permanent memory, but you are renting space on someone elses computer under terms that let them shut you out for vague reasons like suspicious activity. One trigger, and years of photos, notes, emails, and purchases can vanish. Companies design this ecosystem for convenience, not resilience. Protect yourself like a paranoid archivist. Keep at least one offline backup of irreplaceable files on an external drive. Export your contacts, calendars, and important emails periodically. Avoid building your entire identity on a single login provider; use multiple accounts and keep recovery data printed or written down. You cannot control corporate policies, but you can control how catastrophic their decisions would be for your memory, work, and relationships.
