A dropped flask helped invent the laminated windshield
Sloppiness saves lives. In 1903, Édouard Bénédictus knocked a glass flask off his desk. Instead of shattering into deadly shards, it simply cracked and held its shape because it had previously contained liquid plastic that left a film inside. He realized this could prevent drivers from being horribly disfigured in crashes, and laminated glass was born.
