Deeply offended by the classical art filling the Vatican, the intensely conservative pontiff ordered hundreds of perfectly sculpted marble statues to be covered up with plaster fig leaves. He basically vandalized timeless masterpieces because a little bit of exposed marble made him uncomfortable.
