A closer look
Decades before WiFi or modern radar, Jagadish Chandra Bose was casually experimenting with millimeter-wave radio frequencies in the 1890s. While Marconi was getting all the global credit for radio, Bose invented the first semiconductor junctions to detect microwave signals, using galena crystals to catch the elusive waves. He even used these invisible frequencies to ring a bell and ignite gunpowder through solid walls. He refused to patent most of his work out of an ethical belief that science should be free, which is precisely why the history books robbed him of the credit for laying the foundation of wireless tech.
