Long before the slow-mo guys on YouTube, Lucien Bull was freezing time with nothing but electric arcs and sheer stubbornness. In 1904, he wanted to see how insects fly. Normal cameras were hopelessly slow, so he rigged a rotary shutter to an electric spark gap, flashing 2,000 times a second. He essentially invented ultra-high-speed photography just to catch a fly in 4K, proving that scientific brilliance is often born from deeply specific hyper-fixations.
