The Antarctic airport where jets land on blue ice

Nothing inspires confidence in an aviation safety briefing quite like knowing your runway is literally a frozen chunk of the ocean. The McMurdo Station in Antarctica relies on the Pegasus Ice Runway, where enormous Boeing C-17 Globemasters touch down on sheer glacial ice. There’s no tarmac, no paint, and the runway has to be constantly relocated because the continent itself is slowly sliding toward the sea.
