Why bus doors fold inward

Sweeping innocent bystanders off the sidewalk is generally frowned upon by municipal authorities. When a large passenger vehicle pulls up to a crowded curb, outwardly swinging doors would act like giant mechanical bats. By folding inward, they ensure the only thing getting crushed is the personal space of the people already packed inside.
