A closer look
Because staring at your own reflection in a moving metal box used to be considered peak extravagance. For a large portion of automotive history, sun visors were literally just floppy pieces of cardboard meant exclusively to block the glaring sun. If a passenger actually wanted to check their hair after being battered by wind from a rolled-down window, they had to pay extra for a small mirror clipped onto the visor. It took decades before automakers realized that basic vanity was a universal human right.
