A closer look
Wolfgang Köhler stranded a bunch of chimpanzees on the island of Tenerife during WWI and discovered they were entirely capable of "aha!" moments. Instead of just mindlessly using trial-and-error to reach bananas hung frustratingly high, the chimps would sit, silently contemplate the physics of their environment, and suddenly stack wooden crates to build a makeshift ladder. This "insight learning" shattered the behaviorist dogma of the time, proving that apes aren't just reacting to stimuli; they are vividly simulating solutions in their minds before executing them. Basically, they're better problem solvers than most middle management.
