Unlike physical solid objects, sound waves have absolutely zero respect for personal space. Multiple waves can occupy the exact same space simultaneously without destroying each other. They simply merge, either combining to create overwhelmingly loud peaks or completely canceling each other out in a highly complex acoustic dance.
