Months before a book hits shelves, influential reviewers receive Advance Reader Copies. Because printing takes so long, these promotional copies are frantically bound and mailed out well before the final proofreading phase is actually complete. Reviewers are explicitly warned to ignore the terrifying grammatical errors and missing chapters scattered throughout the text.
