Why website navigation is called breadcrumbs
HERE’S THE INTERESTING PART
The highly technical term for leaving a trail of links at the top of a page is literally based on Hansel and Gretel dropping literal food. Breadcrumbs show exactly how deep you have clicked into an application, allowing a quick escape. It is incredibly ironic that the tech industry chose a metaphor involving a trail of crumbs that notoriously got eaten by birds, leaving the characters hopelessly lost.
