A deeply rare congenital condition known as situs inversus causes a person's major visceral organs to develop perfectly mirrored from their normal physiological positions. Their heart securely rests on the right side of their chest, while their liver and stomach completely swap sides in the abdomen. Because the intensely altered organs generally function perfectly, many heavily healthy individuals only discover they possess mirrored anatomy during an unrelated routine medical scan later in life.
