Longyearbyen in Norway enforces a strict local ordinance that practically makes it illegal to die within the town limits. Due to the extreme permafrost, bodies buried in the local cemetery simply do not decompose, essentially preserving corpses forever and occasionally pushing them back up to the surface. To avoid turning the town into a literal zombie ice-rink, terminally ill residents are promptly shipped off to the mainland to expire somewhere less geologically stubborn. It is the ultimate display of Scandinavian efficiency: politely asking you to take your mortality elsewhere so the local council does not have to deal with your frozen remains cluttering up the neighborhood
