A closer look
James Cameron actually drew the famous charcoal sketch of Kate Winslet's character Rose wearing nothing but the Heart of the Ocean necklace in his 1997 blockbuster Titanic. Leonardo DiCaprio's hands were deemed inadequate for the close-up shots, so the director himself stepped in to do the sketching, meaning it is Cameron's hands you see on screen. Because Cameron is left-handed and DiCaprio is right-handed, the post-production team had to painfully mirror the footage just so it would match up for the final cut. There is a supreme, narcissistic irony in a director being so absurdly controlling of his artistic vision that he essentially forces himself into the most romantic scene of the decade, making millions of moviegoers swoon over a middle-aged Canadian man drawing a naked lady on a boat
