A closer look
The pioneer of the notoriously brutal 'Soulsborne' genre was basically the studio's unwanted garbage child. The original Demon's Souls was failing so spectacularly during internal development that no senior staff would touch it. A low-ranking coder named Hidetaka Miyazaki deliberately took control of the doomed project because he knew that if he utterly ruined it further, nobody at the company would actually care. His resulting masochistic design casually revolutionized the entire industry.
