A closer look
CGI is for cowards, at least according to Catwoman. In a deeply unsettling scene where Selina Kyle threatens to eat the Penguin's pet bird, Pfeiffer didn't use a mechanical prop or optical illusion. She literally allowed a live, panicking bird to flutter around inside her closed mouth for several terrifying seconds before opening her lips to let it fly away. The fact that she didn't instantly contract some sort of bizarre avian disease remains the most impressive superhero feat of the entire 1990s.
